Chrissie Jones

Chrissie Jones is a multidisciplinary artist whose work investigates the intersections of personal history, social systems, and the female body. Rooted in her lived experience as a mother and survivor of trauma, Jones’s practice emerged in response to the upheaval of divorce and evolved into a sustained inquiry into endurance, autonomy and care. Her recent paintings act as visual journals, blending expressive figuration with text-based elements and diagrammatic motifs. Fragmented phrases—such as “divorce,” “abuse,” and “valium”—serve both as autobiographical markers and critiques of institutional failure, especially around gendered violence and the medicalization of women’s pain.

Jones juxtaposes raw, gestural marks with anatomical drawings, grids, and numeric codes to explore the tension between order and instability. Recurring symbols—like aeroplanes and firearms—underscore themes of escape, protection, and psychological fragmentation. The female body remains central, not as a static form, but as a site of memory, control, and resistance.

Though her compositions may appear chaotic, they follow a deliberate, process-led structure. Her work resists resolution, offering instead a layered and unflinching portrait of survival. Positioned between personal narrative and cultural critique, her practice contributes to vital conversations around trauma, power, and representation in contemporary art.

Bulletproof

"Bulletproof" by Chrissie Jones is a raw, emotional outpouring of survival and defiance. Fragmented text — “Bulletproof,” “Bitch,” “Pushing Down on Me” — echoes the emotional weight of trauma, abuse and societal pressure. The central, distorted figure evokes both personal and collective experience, positioned within a fractured system. Anatomical elements, grids, and recurring planes suggest tension between order and escape, while the presence of a gun speaks to fierce maternal instinct rather than aggression. In this work, Jones offers a raw yet composed confrontation with pain — and the resilience that follows.

CC20

Chrissie and Stevie, the creative duo behind CC20, have built a universe infused with recurring child-like heroes they have imagined when they were just kids themselves. Today they reshape these moody yet likeable heroes into 'warriors' not to be messed with. Bright colors and thick black outlines are bold ways in which the duo make these characters and their cosmos come to life.

The imaginative world they create helps the duo to escape from everyday realities. They let the characters walk through life with questions about the world weighing on their mind all whilst looking at life with wonder and optimism. Through an imaginary dreamworld CC20 tries to bring people together to reflect on a world where the social and environmental landscape becomes increasingly challenging by the day. Criticism and disappointment but also coolness and hope are clearly echoed through the character's mood(s). Escaping our daily reality is one of the main creative engines for CC20 to continue and create work that embodies a multitude of landscapes, concepts and emotions. In fact, the child-like warriors can probably be interpreted as a perception of CC20's true identity.

Cosmic Cowboy Studio (CC20) is a duo, Chrissie and Stevie, born in the Netherlands and in Belgium and currently living in London. Their work represents characters, animals and objects. The paintings, drawings and collages try to tell a story but everyone is happy to follow their own emotion while viewing them. Influenced by street art, animation and cartoons, CC20's work is characterized by simple drawings, recognizable shapes, recurring characters, movement, outlined in black and often filled with bright colors.

Original works can be found in galleries and collections in various countries in Asia and Europe.
